In brief

Run For Windy set for Sunday, May 19

Starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 19, Swan Valley Education Association will host the Run for Windy event to be held at the Swan Valley High School located at 8400 O’Hern Road.

This annual event is in tribute to Julianne Windy, the former cross country coach/track coach and science teacher for Swan Valley High School who was involved in a serious car accident in June 2007. She is still recovering and making great progress.

There will be a 5K fun run/walk for all ages for $20, which includes a t-shirt, and a 400 meter kids run for $15.

The proceeds will be used to fund an ongoing scholarship in her honor. The scholarship will be known as, “Overcoming All Obstacles” and will be given to a Swan Valley senior who embodies these principles.

Spring Parade of Homes continues this weekend

SAGINAW – Home Builders Association of Saginaw presents their 55th Annual Spring Parade of Homes. The event began Saturday, May 11 and runs through May 18-19. Hours for the Parade are Saturday and Sunday 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.

On the route, guests may meet agents and builders, ask questions about home building and remodeling, gain knowledge about design, current and upcoming trends in energy efficient products, decorating, granite, solar power and technology, landscape, lighting, plumbing, floor covering and more. The parade features 18 new homes and condominiums created by 12 different builders and spanning over four different counties.

Michigan Housing Index, which is conducted by the Home Builders Association of Michigan, recorded its highest total in the three year history of the survey. Home building is on the rise.

“We are so excited about this resurgence in home building,” said Audra Davis, executive officer for the Home Builders Association of Saginaw. “When building is happening in our communities, that tells us things are improving and our community members are both willing and able to re-invest into our communities. We all know where there is building there is growth,”

“We are seeing continued support of increased building in our area and that is encouraging not only for the custom builders, but the remodeler, suppliers and sub-contractors as well,” said Steven Zietz, chairman of the parade of homes.
