Hawks fall in Homecoming football game, 36-12

The Knights scored first, after a 50 yard punt return, Flint took the ball in from the 22 and converted on a two point conversion to go up 8-0.

Heritage struck right back, Marlin Evans returned the kickoff 37 yards and pushed the ball down to the Flint 16 yard line where Brian Cole ran it in for for the score. The Knights blocked the extra point to stay up 8-6.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Flint returner fumbled the ball and Heritage recovered it on the 12 yard line, two plays later Evans caught a 16 yard pass for the touchdown. The Hawks were stopped on the two point conversion and went up 12-8.

Flints next drive ended on an interception by Cole, but the Knights got the ball back and scored another touchdown with 57 seconds left in the first quarter. Flint scored once more at the end of the half to go up 22-12.

Heritage was held scoreless in the second half, while the Knights score two more touchdowns to win the game 36-12.

Brian Cole led the team with 55 yards rushing and a touchdown, Marlin Evens had 119 return yards with a receiving touchdown and Marshawn Evans led the defense with 7.5 tackles.

The Hawks drop to 2-4 on the season, Coach Don Maloney said that the team put itself in tough positions during the game, with penalties and giving Flint the ball with a short field.

The Hawks kept the game close in the first half, Coach Maloney said that Flint’s size and athleticism took its toll and allowed them to take over in the second half. He was proud of how his team continued to fight and play hard for the entire game.

Nichole Clement was named homecoming Queen and Brian Cole was named King.

Clement is a runner on the Hawk’s cross country team and placed second out of 84 runners at the Heritage Cross Country Invitational the next morning.
