Horizons to host annual State St. Christmas tree lighting ceremony

By Chris Oliver

SAGINAW TWP. – Despite Christmas being a couple of months away and Halloween around the corner, planning has already begun for the fourth annual Christmas tree lighting event on State Street in Saginaw Township.

The lighting ceremony will take place on the evening of Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Horizons Conference Center located at 6200 State Street. This year will be the first time the event will be held at the Horizons Conference Center, with Green Acres Plaza being the home in the first three years of the event’s history.

“The success that we have enjoyed at Green Acres has been wonderful these past few years,” explained the assistant director of community development Bridget Smith. “We also understand that it is a burden for traffic and the people attending the event as our event grows and Green Acres grows.”

Smith added that businesses and people can get involved with the event and help promote fundraisers and set up events.

“Businesses that are coming to set up booths are being encouraged to bring children’s activities,” she said. “We are also looking to promote the 12 days of giving, which will be about spreading the word for different fundraisers happening.”

Santa will again be making an appearance and Smith said some of the details are still being planned. Individuals are welcome to contact her for more details by phone at 989-791- 9865 or by email at bsmith@saginawtownship.net.
