Thursday, March 12, the STBA hosted its annual luncheon at Horizons Conference Center, 6200 State Street, to support local businesses and the state of the community. Opperman’s Cork ‘N’ Ale was honored as STBA’s Business of the Year for 2015. Owner and manager Jeff Opperman spoke upon receiving the award. He thanked his customers, employees and especially his family.

“Family is the first thing that goes when you’re working 12 hour days,” Opperman said. “Them putting up with me for as long as I’ve been doing this is really special.”

Opperman added that receiving the award was a special prize for the years of hard work he’s put into the business.

“We’ve been here for 20 years, so it’s special to get some recognition for all we’ve done,” he said. “The Opperman family has been in the region since 1865.”

Winning the award isn’t slowing down Opperman’s Cork ‘N’ Ale from improving. A brand new sign greets customers and plans for more improvements are on the horizon.

“We’re planning on putting in a new entrance, rearranging the interior and possibly doing some interior work,” Opperman said.

Opperman’s Cork ‘N’ Ale is located at 2940 Midland Road and supplies numerous selections of beer, wine and liquor.
