MLS Cardinals sideline Nouvel in district semis

Photo by Lamont Lenar The Michigan Lutheran Seminary boys basketball team defeated Nouvel Catholic Central 54-41 in the Class C district semifinal on Wednesday, March 11. The Cardinals took the early lead, going up 14-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Cardinals then extended the lead to 11 points, 26-15, late in the second period, but the Panthers scored the last five points of the half to cut the lead to 26-20.

Nouvel held Michigan Lutheran to eight points in the third and cut the Cardinals lead to five, 34-29 going into the fourth.

The Panthers were able to get within three points early in the fourth, but then the Cardinals pulled ahead for good and won 54-41.

Nouvel coach Joseph Jacobs said the “kids fought hard and had a chance” in the game.

Coach Jacobs said the team continued to improve over the season and he was proud of how they worked every day.
