CROP Walk recruitment rally set for Saturday

The Saginaw County CROP Hunger Walk will hold a recruitment rally on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church, 2665 Midland Road, Saginaw. Committee members will be on hand to answer questions and distribute information. The 41st annual Saginaw CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 8.

The Saginaw walk is one of over 1,000 CROP Hunger Walks taking place around the country this year. These interfaith community events are sponsored by Church World Service.

Organized locally, the October walk has set a goal of recruiting 300 walkers and raising $33,000. The purpose of the walk is to help stop hunger in the community and around the world through sustainable development initiatives. Twenty-five percent of the funds raised in Saginaw County will go to local agencies that provide low income families with food, including Hidden Harvest, East Side Soup Kitchen, Samaritas Community Center and Saginaw City Rescue Mission.

Team One’s 5K Wine Run/ Walk to be held Sept. 13

Team One Credit Union and Tri To Finish are teaming up for the Team One 5K Wine Run/Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 13 in downtown Saginaw to benefit Saginaw- Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity. Whether persons have never participated in a walk before or are a serious runner, this fun filled event is for everyone.

The run/walk will be held at Huntington Event Park, 303 Johnson St., Saginaw, on Sept. 13 beginning at 6 p.m.

This event is a USATF-sanctioned 5K Run/5KWalk that starts at Huntington Event Center. The course is along the scenic riverfront, continuing onto Ojibway Island before returning back to the finish line at Huntington Event Park. Participants will be treated with a t-shirt, finisher medal, two wine tastings (21 years old and older) and a wine glass. Appetizers and entertainment will also be provided.
