Kochville DDA expects large turnout at this year’s open house

The Kochville Downtown Development Authority is hosting its annual open house, and DDA Director Chris Jacobs is expecting a great turnout.

The Kochville DDA Open House will be held at the Veteran’s Hall, 3265 Kochville Road, on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

“We have a really strong commercial district and [businesses] are represented well in the open house. This year we expect 30 to 40 businesses to participate which would be growth compared to last year,” said Jacobs.

The open house will feature free food and drink, live music, door prizes, a bonfire, lawn games, and a bounce house. Jacobs also said the fire department will display its fire engines, and the sheriff’s posse will bring out its horses.

“So you have horses wandering around, people eating food, a band playing, there’s lawn games, so it’s a really festive atmosphere,” said Jacobs.

Buffalo Wild Wings catered the open house last year and Jacobs said the firm will likely cater it again. Beer and wine will also be free, but the open house is a family-friendly event.

The open house was one of the first events Jacobs organized after becoming the DDA director last year. In years prior, the event had been pretty lackluster, Jacobs said.

“So I spent a lot of time going out and about, meeting different business owners, managers, stuff like that, convincing them that this event, that they might not have known about or had a negative connotation about in prior years, was going to be different,” said Jacobs.

According to Jacobs, about 30 businesses and hundreds of residents participated in last year’s open house, and he expects an even greater turnout this year.

Jacobs said aside from the fun of the open house, it’s also a great opportunity for the DDA to share what it is that it does. A power point will air during the event which will share infrastructure and developmental projects that the DDA is responsible for.

“We use it as an opportunity to annually report to the community,” said Jacobs.
