The Musical.” SAGINAW – Saginaw Choral Society presents an afternoon of holiday delight in the musical retelling of Charles Dickens’ classic story, “A Christmas Carol.” “Scrooge! The Musical,” in concert, brings Bob Cratchit, Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas Past and Present front and center on the Temple stage on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m.

Based on the 1970 British film Scrooge starring Albert Finney, Saginaw Choral Society and soloists sing all the songs in Leslie Bricusse’s fun and magical score, teaching Scrooge and everyone around him that life is good.

In addition to SCS members, the faculty and staff of the Saginaw Valley State University Department of Theatre and students from local elementary and middle schools have also become part of the cast and crew of dedicated community members who are making this such an inspiring production.

Following the concert, lead characters will greet children in the Temple Lobby.

SVSU student Madalyn McHugh (Isabel) said, “Playing the part of Isabel for this show has been such a rewarding experience. Isabel is a beautiful, dignified woman who chooses to protect herself from heartbreak by walking away from greed. How exciting it is to have the opportunity to portray such a strong woman! The cast, chorus, directors are fantastic to work with and we all have a blast together.”

A free concert shuttle service will be available compliments of Great Lakes Bay Financial. The shuttle will run one hour before and after the concert from the Chamber of Commerce building at 515 N. Washington Ave.

Jeremiah Kraniak, music director, said, “‘In concert’ productions like this one are a relatively new and charming practice. Sets and costumes are limited yet each singer, actor, and musician almost never leave the stage. In a way, the chorus and orchestra become additional characters. It really brings the people, rather than the set, front and center. It’s also a hoot to work with the kids.”

SCS is an auditioned community choir made up of 75 dedicated singers from the around the Great Lakes Bay Region. “Scrooge! The Musical” is presented as part of the Saginaw Choral Society’s 82nd season and is made possible by support from Merrill Lynch the Hart Group, Garber Automotive Group, Absolute! Building Maintenance, Saginaw Arts and Enrichment Commission, MI Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, MI Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Tickets are available at the door or by calling 877.754.SHOW (7469). The Temple Theatre is located at 201 N. Washington St., Saginaw.
