Matthew Summerfield Matthew Summerfield Titans to host epilepsy awareness fundraiser

The Tri-Valley Titans hockey team is holding its second Epilepsy Awareness hockey game on Friday, Dec. 8, at the Midland Civic Arena.

Last year’s event raised over $8,000 dollars for the Epilepsy Foundation of

Michigan.

Matthew Summerfield, a senior on the Titans squad, has lived with epilepsy from the age of 11.

Chanda Gunn, the goalie from the US Women’s hockey team that won bronze at the 2006 Winter Olympics, will be at the game and visit area schools. Gunn is an Athletes vs Epilepsy Ambassador and has lived with epilepsy throughout her life and career since she was 9. Her visit is being sponsored by Dow Chemical.

Tickets are available at the door, with the Titans facing off against Midland High at 7:45 p.m. the Midland Civic Arena is located at 405 Fast Ice Drive, Midland.

Vikings’ Huebner named to Class B all-state team

Swan Valley Viking Kristen Huebner was named to the Class B all-state volleyball team and was also named to the Region 8 team along with teammate Hallie McIntrye, who also earned all-region honors.

Heritage volleyball team named academic all-state

The Heritage volleyball team was named academic all-state by the Michigan Volleyball Coaches Association with a team grade point average of 3.5.

Heritage swimmers finish 15th at finals

The Heritage girls swim team placed 15th at the state finals held in Holland on Nov. 18. Ariana Shokoohi, Eliza Gorsline, Hannah Fleming, and Emilia Shokoohi earned all-state honors at the meet.

Ariana Shokoohi, swam a :24.56 and placed 12th in the 50 Yard Freestyle, and 11th in the 100 Yard Freestyle at :53.57. The relay team of Eliza Gorsline, Ariana Shokoohi, Hannah Fleming and Emilia Shokoohi placed fourth in the 200 Yard Freestyle in 1:38.84 and 14th in the 400 Yard Freestyle in 3:40.15.
