A Saginaw County mother’s boyfriend has been charged with the first-degree felony murder of her 3-year-old son.

Saginaw Township Police officers and MMR paramedics were sent to the mother’s apartment on Jan. 1 for the boy, who was not breathing. The child was in the care of the mother’s boyfriend, Tavaris J. Williams, at the time.

The child was taken to a local hospital where it was determined that he had been severely beaten. Detectives investigated the case and arrested the 26-yearold live-in boyfriend on a charge of first-degree child abuse, said Police Chief Donald Pussehl.

The child died as a result of his injuries on Jan. 5. An autopsy ruled that the boy had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, classifying the death as a homicide, prosecutors said.

Williams was charged on Monday, Jan. 8, with first-degree murder as well as first-degree child abuse. Saginaw County District Judge Terry L. Clark ordered Williams held without bond pending arraignment, prosecutors said.
