Nouvel cagers clip Freeland, 56-35

The Panthers came out with a press and a tough half-court defense to shut out the Falcons in the opening quarter while scoring 13.

Freeland then only scored two free throws in the first four minutes of the second quarter, while Nouvel moved out to a 20-2 lead.

The Falcons made their first basket with under four minutes left in the half. They added two threes and and a two-pointer in the period, but the Panthers scored 18 and took the lead out to 31-10 at the half.

Freeland woke up in the third quarter, with an effective press and upped its defensive pressure to hold

Nouvel to just a three-pointer in the period. The Falcons went on to score 13 and cut into the Panther lead, making it 34-23 to end the quarter.

Photo by Lamont Lenar Each team scored eight points in the first half of the fourth quarter, making it 42-31, but then Nouvel put the game away with an 14-4 run and took the 56-35 win.

Nouvel coach Michael Kessler said the team brought it, stating the team had improved and looked sharper.

He said the press and half-court defense were effective and the team had its lowest turnovers of the season. “We executed, and were really composed in the game,” he said.

Peter Snyder led Nouvel with 20 points, with Thomas Raedy scoring 19.
