Dance champions announced as part of ‘Dance to the Movies’ cast

SAGINAW – The Temple Theatre will host “Dance to the Movies” at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 2. Temple officials announced the cast of dancers will include Dmitry Chaplin and Anna Trebunskaya, each a veteran professional of “Dancing With The Stars,” along with a troupe of other award-winning dancers and singers.

“Dance to the Movies” features extravagant, dazzling dance tributes to some of Hollywood’s most iconic characters and musical moments. Top choreographers have reimagined memorable dance scenes from movies like “Singin’ in the Rain,” “Grease,” “Chicago,” “West Side Story,” “Moulin Rouge,” and more to produce a show that combines stage and screen like no other. It has been touring since the spring of 2017 and has been thrilling audiences nationwide.

Chaplin is recognized as one of the most distinguished ballroom dancers and choreographers in the United States and around the world. A star professional on Dancing With The Stars, an Emmy-nominated choreographer for his work on “So You Think You Can Dance,” and is one of America’s favorite dancers.

In 2009, Chaplin became runner up on “Dancing With The Stars” with his partner, Mya, receiving a record-breaking number of votes and making him one of the most popular dancers on the show. He choreographed an entire episode of the Fox hit show “Bones” in 2013, and the producers offered him the guest star role of Kendrick Mantorov in the season premiere. Since then he’s stayed active in dance competitions and acting, choreographing seasons for both SYTYCD and DWTS, and guest starring on the hit ABC Family show “Baby Daddy,” where he played the role of Vladimir the ballroom expert and once again choreographed the entire episode.

Balancing a career that combines acting, dancing, choreographing, teaching, and personal appearances on TV and at events and conventions across America, Chaplin is in constant demand all around the world.

Trebunskaya is one of the fan favorites on the ABC hit competition show “Dancing With The Stars.” With over 10 seasons on the top rated program, Trebunskaya has waltzed, fox trotted, tangoed and cha-chaed with numerous celebrities and athletes, finishing as runner-up with partners Jerry Rice and Olympian Evan Lysacek.

Trebunskaya began dancing at age six, won her first competition at seven, and moved to the United States from Russia at 17 with her parents, both ballroom dancers and studio owners. She has been featured in various media outlets including Shape Magazine, Life & Style, Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, TV Guide, Runway, InTouch, People, and US Weekly.

Giving birth to her daughter Amalya, in January 2014, Trebunskaya is a spokesperson for various baby and mommy brands. With a passion for acting, she has been training with acting coaches Joanne Barren and D.W. Brown for several years. A well-rounded artist, she is a trained, professional actress, having made a recent appearance on the final season of HBO’s critically-acclaimed show, The Newsroom. She also owns the You Can Dance ballroom studio in Hermosa Beach, Calif.

Box office hours are Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day (summer hours), from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Labor Day and Memorial Day (regular season hours), and three hours prior to a show. Parking is available across the street at the Dow Event Center parking structure. Concessions are available for cash or credit.
