SCS announces MPulse Scholarship application dates

SAGINAW – The Saginaw Choral Society announced applications are now being accepted for the Glen Thomas Rideout Endowed Scholarship to the vocal arts program at the University of Michigan summer MPulse Performing Arts Institute. This is a unique opportunity for high school students in the Great Lakes Bay Region to receive scholarship funds to participate in the program. This year’s Vocal Arts Institute takes place July 15-21, and is open to students completing grades nine-12 in the 2017-2018 school year.

The application is available on the UM School of Music Theatre & Dance’s website under the Youth Programs tab at https://www.music. umich.edu/special_ programs/youth/mpulse/. Students must apply for admission online by the stated Feb. 9 priority date.

Interested applicants should request consideration for the Glen Thomas Rideout scholarship when applying. Instructions for scholarship opportunities can be found in the General Information link under Tuition, Fees & Scholarships.

The Glen Thomas Rideout Vocal Scholarship award will be granted to vocal arts student(s) with preference given to candidates from the Saginaw, Bay and Midland Counties as recommended by the Saginaw Choral Society. To be considered for this scholarship, applicants should send an email to smtd-youthandadult@umich.edu requesting to be considered for scholarship consideration.

Students attending the Vocal Arts Institute participate in sessions combining choral ensemble singing, voice lessons, and music classes. Vocal Arts Institute offers energized and challenging experiences focused on both choral and solo vocal training. Small group voice lessons allow participants to study with UM voice faculty members and class offerings include ensemble rehearsals and theory/musicianship classes. The chorale will perform on the final Saturday and student recitals allow participants to perform solo works.
