SAM hosts Valentine quilling event

The Saginaw Art Museum will host a free Family Day Valentine quilling event on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participants can get ready for Valentine’s Day by learning how to create their very own quilled Valentine’s card. This simple paper rolling technique is a perfect activity for artists of all levels.

The number of participants is capped at 20, and young children must be accompanied by an adult. To register or for more information, contact Lauren at staff@saginawartmuseum.org or by calling the museum at (989) 754-2491 ext. 101.

All art materials will be supplied by the museum. Certain materials may become hazardous if used improperly. Participants should always follow instructions given by the staff leader.

SVSU art gallery hosts digital space exhibition

The University Art Gallery and the Saginaw Valley State University Art Department are hosting the digital space exhibition, previously known as Cyberspace. The show runs Feb. 19 through March 9, with a lecture on Thursday, March 1 from 3 to 4 p.m., and a reception that day from 4 to 6 p.m.

This is the fourth year for this show, which is a juried digital fine arts competition open to artists within the State of Michigan.

This year’s juror is Christopher Schneider, a professional artist and photography adjunct at Lawrence Technological University and Oakland Community College. He obtained his MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art, and is also the founder and gallery coordinator for Hatch: a Hamtramck Art Collective.
