By Cameron Kerkau

The Saginaw Township Community Schools Board of Education hired a new teacher, Patricia Brandy, and approved an unpaid leave of absence for teacher Michelle Estep at its latest meeting on Monday, April 9.

The Board recognized White Pine Middle School for once again being designated on the National Forum Schools to Watch list and White Pine Middle Schools students were recognized for participation in the Delta Math Competition as well as the Scripps County Spelling Bee. The Heritage High School music students were recognized for their participation in the state solo and ensemble competition and the Heritage Hi Fi Choir was recognized for its participation in the state choral festival.

April is Michigan’s Month of the Young Child and students from Westdale, Hemmeter and Weiss Elementary Schools presented at the meeting to mark the occasion. Westdale students read a poem to their parents in the audience, Hemmeter students presented a poster they had made to the board, and Weiss students gave each board member homemade ice cream sundaes to enjoy with a video presentation.

Also at the meeting, Raegen Genovesi and Michelle Knoble were given the Saginaw Township Education Association Starfish Award, which recognizes teachers for exceptional work.
