Saginaw Township amends zoning ordinance, purchases vehicles

By Cameron Kerkau

At its latest meeting on Monday, April 9, the Saginaw Township Board of Trustees approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance allowing cellular towers to be built within floodplain areas, as requested by the planning commission, which voted on the measure on March 21.

The board also accepted a bid from Satkowiak’s City Sewer Cleaners of Saginaw for sanitary sewer cleaning in the southeast section of Saginaw Township in the amount of $38625.50. This is part of the Department of Public Service’s ongoing project to clean the townships sewers an area at a time.

“Every year we’re going to take on different areas. This year we’re going to take on from State and Center (roads), all the way to Hemmeter (Road), all the way to Brockway (Road) and back down,” said Director of Public Services Herb Grunwell.

A three-foot chlorine gas line at the retention basin will be replaced by William E Walter, Inc. of Saginaw for $69,500.

Several vehicles were also purchased by the township. A full-size Sedan was purchased from Serra Chevrolet of Saginaw in the amount of $23,574.32 for the Department of Public Services. Two Ford F-250 pickup trucks were purchased from Wilson Ford of Saginaw in a total amount of $47,148.64 for the Water Department. A Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck was purchased from Garber Auto Group of Saginaw in the amount of $25,733 for the Community Development Department.
