Schafers celebrate 70th wedding anniversary

Harold and Madeline Schafer in 1948. Harold and Madeline Schafer in 1948. Harold and Madeline Schafer, of Saginaw Township, will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary with a dinner hosted by their family at Red Lobster in Saginaw Township on June 9, 2018.

Harold Schafer and the former Madeline M. Hover were united in marriage on June 5, 1948 at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saginaw.

Their children are Margaret (James) Moore, of Saginaw Township, Karen (Mark) Braunschweiger, of Kettering, Ohio, and Deborah (James) Nehil, of Midland. Their grandchildren are Tiffany (Richard) Roberts, Christopher (Holly) Moore, and Angela Braunschweiger. They also have one great-grandchild, Aiden Moore.

Harold worked for AE Staley Manufacturing Co. and worked in real estate. He retired in 1987.

Madeline was a registered nurse who worked in Dr. Novy’s office and who was a public health nurse for the Saginaw County Department of Public Health. She retired as a RN from Saginaw Community Village in the 1980s.

Harold and Madeline Schafer. Harold and Madeline Schafer. Harold served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II from 1943 to 1946. He enjoys sports. He had played baseball and was in a bowling league.

Madeline enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafting and rummage sales.

The Schafers attend Resurrection Lutheran Church in Saginaw, where they have been very active in the church and have held various positions during previous years.

They both enjoy traveling and watching their grandchildren play sports.
