Photos by Lamont Lenar The Nouvel Catholic Central baseball team won its district tournament on Saturday, June 2, beating Michigan Lutheran Seminary 5-4 in the semifinal and Bay City All Saints 2-1 in the final.

In the final, the Panthers got on the board in the third inning with Harry Dwan scoring from third on a fielder’s choice grounder from Brady Alverson to go 1-0.

All Saints came back with a run in the fifth to tie the game, 1-1.

Tate Hausebeck singled to open the bottom of the fifth for the Panthers, advanced on a single from Justin Osmond, then scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly from Brady Alverson.

Jacob Burr got the win from the mound for Nouvel, going seven innings with 13 strikeouts and allowing one hit.

In the Panthers’ semifinal matchup, they took down MLS in eight innings.

Nouvel scored first, with two runs in the second. Sean Nowosatka and Jacob Burr scored for the Panthers, then Burr and Joe Bartels scored two more in the fourth for the 4-0 lead.

Seminary came back and tied the game 4-4, with four runs in the fifth.

Nouvel got the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, with Burr scoring for the third time for the 5-4 final.
