Drop Everything and Read at the Zoo June 20

SAGINAW – Start off summer on the right foot by attending the 17th annual D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) at the Zoo, on Wednesday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, 1730 S. Washington Ave., Saginaw. The event is sponsored by the READ Association of Saginaw County, and each child attending will receive a free book for his or her reading enjoyment.

Sixteen organizations and businesses will partner with READ, providing literacy activities and prizes throughout the zoo. Booth sponsors and partners include: Barnes and Noble Saginaw, Boy Scout Troop #342, Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Council Great Lakes Bay Region, Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, Children’s Zoo at Celebration Square, SG Photo Booth, Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum, Mid-Michigan Waste Authority, Public Libraries of Saginaw, Covenant Healthcare Foundation’s Reach Out and Read Program, Saginaw Community Foundation FORCE Youth Advisory Committee, Saginaw County Birth to 5 Program, Saginaw YMCA Summer Youth Program, St. Mary’s Center of HOPE, Target, and Wildfire Credit Union. WHNN’s remote broadcast will start off the day with local musicians, Leo and Merry Feith, providing afternoon entertainment.

Ron St. Germain, Michigan author, will share his books featuring furry critters which take creativity to a new level. St. Germain is a professional, international award-winning writer, photographer and author of the following titles: My Michigan, “Why is Everyone Coming to My House?” and “I Love You More Than…,” which will be available at the zoo for purchase and author signing. He invites all to pile in during his reading session and witness one of the most unique and entertaining love stories of the time at noon in the aoo’s Amphitheater.

Local authors, Jayda & Devonya Brown (“Always in my Heart”) and Emily Deibel (“Cecily in Cinderland”) will also be on hand with their first books to share how they got started and to autograph copies for purchase.

All activities of D.E.A.R. at the Zoo are included in the zoo’s admission price. Group rates are available by calling (989) 759-1408 prior to the event. Carousel and train rides are $1 per person per ride. Zoo members get in and ride FREE. For directions and more information about the Zoo, visit www.saginawzoo.com. This event is held rain or shine, except for severe inclement weather. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Mid-Michigan Children’s Museum, 315 W. Genesee Ave.
