Nouvel golfers place 16th a state finals

The Nouvel Catholic Central boys’ golf team placed 16th at the Division 4 state golf finals held on June 8-9 at Forest Akers East on the campus of Michigan State University. The Panthers shot a 36 hole team score of 720. Jack Grant led the Panthers with a 172 (89 and 83). Jonah Wright shot an 82 and a 92 for 174. Sam Buckingham shot a 91 and a 94 for 185. Tim Stack shot a 94 and a 95 for 189.

Heritage baseball falls in regional semis

The Heritage baseball team lost to Midland 1-0 in the Division 1 regional semifinal on June 9.

Nouvel baseball bows to USA in regional finals

The Nouvel Catholic Central baseball team advanced to the Division 4 regional championship game on June 9 after defeating Dryden 7-3 in the semifinals. The Panthers lost in the finals 6-1 to Unionville-Sebewaing.

Heritage baseball honors

Spencer Schellenbach and Brandon Smith were name first team All- Saginaw Valley League in baseball. Landon Lagalo, Tyler Kozinski and Adam Coenis were named second team with Cres Hernandez named an honorable mention.

Heritage girls’ lacrosse honors

Heritage girls’ lacrosse coach Andrea Addicott was named the coach of the year in the Saginaw Valley League, with players Jaden Talbert and Claire Kubacki earning first team all-conference honors.

Heritage boys’ lacrosse honors

Alex Tsiros was named first team all-conference in the Saginaw Valley League for boys’ lacrosse. Isaac Gleisnse, Nathan Greenwood and Jack Jesko were named second team, with Nick Ryan, Eddie Symons and Brady Raphun earning honorable mentions.

Heritage girls’ soccer honors

Maddie Camp, Emma Banning and Elizabeth Borders earned second team all-conference soccer honors in the Saginaw Valley League.

Heritage softball honors

Kelsie Dilts was named second team all-conference for softball in the Saginaw Valley League. Emma Alleshunas, Peyton Moreau and Elizabeth Newcomb-Yi, were named as honorable mentions.

Heritage boys’ golf honors

Matt Moretuzzo earned first team all-conference golf honors in the Saginaw Valley League, with Arnav Sharma and Kyler Brown named second team, and Eathan McKenzie named an honorable mention.

Saginaw Valley Women’s Golf Association

LiAnn Ferchau shot an 89 to win the championship flight in the Saginaw Valley Women’s Golf Association event at Pine River Country Club in Alma on Thursday, June 7. Sue Sonneberg took the first flight with a 104.

Nouvel golf challenge set for June 29

The Nouvel Catholic Central 20th annual golf challenge will be played on Friday, June 29 at the Swan Valley Golf Club.

The day begins at 7 a.m. with registration and a light snack, followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. There will be a light lunch at the turn at 10 a.m., and dinner at the club at 1 p.m., with raffles, awards and prizes.

The challenge will be a four-person scramble format. Foursomes can register together, or singles can be put in a foursome. Team skins, team mulligans, and the Panther Ball contest will be available.

Every hole has the opportunity to win a prize with a hole-in-one contest, longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. There will also be 50/50 tickets sold throughout the day.

Board of realtors to host charity golf outing

The Saginaw Board of Realtors will be hosting its annual charity golf outing on Friday, June 22 at Beech Hollow Golf Course on Hospital Road. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

This year’s charity recipient will be the Boys and Girls Club of the Great Lakes Bay Region. The club will be opening its new facility at 1781 Fordney St. this month, and all proceeds from the outing will be donated to help purchase supplies, instruments, games and other items.

Last year the outing raised nearly $10,000 for the Saginaw Fireworks.
