Shields Lion Club parade returns Saturday

By Cameron Kerkau

Despite the cancellation of the Shields Men’s Club Festival, The Shields Lions Club annual parade will still take place on Saturday, July 7 at 11 a.m.

According to parade organizer and Lion Wayne Engel, the Lions Club never even considered cancelling its annual parade.

“We were always going to do it,” said Engel.

The theme for this year’s parade is “Red, White & Blue.” Line up begins at 9 a.m. at Shields Elementary School, 6900 Stroebel Road. The parade will take South River Road to Gratiot Road, then to South Miller Road where it will arrive at Roberts Park, 500 South Miller Road, formerly the Shields Men’s Club grounds.

An impartial panel will judge each parade entry in all three categories, most original, best theme and best overall. Day-of registration will be accepted, but those entries will not be eligible for awards.

The annual car show will also return from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Eagles Club will be serving breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Bingo will take place in the soccer pavilion from 2 to 10 p.m.

Questions regarding the parade can be directed to Engel at (989) 301-0022 or Wengel9125@aol.com.
