SCMAC tire drive begins Monday

By Cameron Kerkau

The Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission (SCMAC) will be conducting its first household scrap tire drive of the summer beginning Monday, June 16 and continuing until Friday, July 20, from 1 to 7:30 p.m.

Scrap tires are an ideal breeding habitat for both nuisance and diseasecarrying mosquitoes. All tires collected by SCMAC are transported to First Class Tire Shredders Inc. of Clio to be shredded.

Tires will be collected at Richland Township Hall on Monday; Taymouth Township Hall on Tuesday; Brady Township Hall on Wednesday; Pat’s Food Center, 7620 Midland Road, Freeland on Thursday; and Thomas Township Hall, 8215 Shields Drive on Friday.

All Saginaw County property owners can drop off at no cost.

All tire drop-offs must come from Saginaw County residents with a valid Michigan ID or driver’s license. Tires must be household tires, car, pickup truck, motorcycle, bike and other small tires. Oversized tires are not accepted. Tires must be off the rim and residents are limited to 10 tires per address, per year.

SCMAC does not accept tires from businesses, agriculture or contracting operations.
