Nouvel and Valley Lutheran played a tight first half, with neither team scoring. Both squads played strong defensively, limiting the shots on goal. Each had a couple of scoring opportunities, but both defenses held.

In the beginning of the second half, the ball stayed mostly in the midfield with both teams trying to get the advantage. The Chargers began to take control near the midpoint of the period, taking the ball into the Panthers’ zone.

After a couple of close shots that went wide, Valley Lutheran scored at the 18:56 mark, with Braxton Flood finding the net off a rebound in front of the goal, for the 1-0 lead.

Nouvel was able to get a couple late shots at the Chargers’ goal but the Valley Lutheran defenders were able to get back and prevent a score.

Nouvel coach Ryan Ellis said “Valley Lutheran has a good team. They challenge us. It’s always a battle when the two of us play.”

He said his team has gotten better as the season has gone on. With three games remaining, he said, “We’ll continue to tweak, and be ready for the post-season.”

Valley Lutheran coach Doug Guenther said, “They played really well. We’ll take the win.” We’ve been playing well the last couple of weeks, and with three games left, we want to stay healthy for the post-season.”
