GEORGE J. WILBER, of Oscoda, formerly of St. Charles, 83, passed away peacefully at Iosco County Medical Care Facility on Sunday, October 21, 2018. George was born on March 21, 1935 to George L. and Louise J. (Lea) Wilber. He married his wife, Janice (McLaughlin), on October 1, 1955 in Saginaw, and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. George worked for many years on the Saginaw Township Police Department. After his time with the police force, he became employed by General Motors and worked in plant security, from which he eventually retired. He is credited with being a charter member of the Carrollton Fire Department, and also served several years with the Saginaw Township Fire Department. George was a very skilled and talented wood carver and truly had a passion for being in the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janice A. Wilber, of Oscoda; two children, son Lonnie J. Wilber, of Oscoda, and daughter, Robin S. Taylor, of Hemlock; two grandchildren, Michael Taylor (Alyssa Burchfield), of Saginaw, and Matthew Taylor, of Bay City; two great-grandchildren, Damien and Lyric Taylor; one sister, Debra (Dennis) Murphy; three brothers-in-law; several nieces, nephews; and many special friends.
Per his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018 at noon at St. Charles United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the church. An online guest registry is available at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
