New Hope Valley celebrates completed addition with ribbon cutting, announces independent living project

SAGINAW – After approximately seven months of construction, New Hope Valley Assisted Living & Memory Care Community recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of their expansion project. The 13,000 square foot addition features fifteen new assisted living apartments, an enclosed courtyard, a larger beauty salon, a new activities space, a library and more. The ribbon cutting ceremony was well attended, with representatives from the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, the Saginaw Township Board of Trustees, and many other community members present. After the ceremony, guests were invited to tour the new wing, and were able to explore model apartments.

With one project reaching completion, New Hope Valley is pleased to announce plans for a new luxury senior independent living community. This community will be built on the New Hope Valley campus, though it will not be connected to the existing assisted living and memory care community. At their meeting on Wednesday, November 19, the Saginaw Township Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the project to the Saginaw Township Board of Trustees. The proposed 80,000 square foot community contains 65 apartments, including 7 cottages, and will be on a single floor. The apartments will average 750 square feet in size, with the largest reaching more than 1,000 square feet. Each private apartment will have a patio, a kitchen, a full bathroom, and an emergency call system. In addition, the community will include the following amenities:

• Community dining space

• Village center, including exercise facilities, convenience store, movie theatre, etc.

• Two courtyards totaling over 15,000 square feet to provide open space for residents

• Covered parking lot connected to building

• Greenhouse

• Two ponds strategically placed for pleasant views

The independent living community will be designed by Hooker DeJong, the architectural firm that designed the first two phases of the New Hope campus. Rumi Shahzad, Co-Founder and Managing Director of New Hope Valley, remarked, “As in our first two phases, Hooker DeJong will continue to incorporate themes of water and sunlight into our community’s design, as these create an aesthetically pleasing, soothing environment. Much of our inspiration is drawn from Frank Lloyd Wright, and his play with water and light.”

While New Hope Valley continues to grow, it has not lost sight of its strong sense of community and personal care.

Shahzad said, “Residents and their loved ones, and employees and their families, are the heart of our community. We strive to create opportunities for life enrichment and socialization here, with current residents telling us that their grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoy coming here to visit. We plan to continue that inviting, family friendly environment in our independent living community.”

That sense of community does not end with residents and employees. New Hope Valley has partnered with Saginaw Township, local colleges and universities, churches, schools, and other organizations to develop a stimulating and positive atmosphere for residents. In addition, the 20 partners of the independent living project are part of the “fabric of the local community,” according to Shahzad. Another community resource, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at SVSU, will also be made available to residents in the independent living community to encourage continued growth and learning. Shahzad said that New Hope Valley is grateful for all that those in the local area have done to enrich life for New Hope’s residents.
